The best way to learn a construction trade is through apprenticeship. Apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with formal classroom and hands on instruction. Apprentices earn while they learn.

Alaska Works can help applicants gain entry into Alaska’s construction trade apprenticeships through our Apprenticeship Outreach program

Apprenticeship Outreach can provide:

  • Information on construction trades
  • Referral to apprenticeship
  • Assistance gathering documents
  • Interview skills
  • Travel reimbursement for interview and application
  • Referral to community resource agencies

Apprenticeship Preparation

Applicants may be eligible for these services to help prepare them for apprenticeship or employment:

  • Career Counseling
  • Training and education
  • Interview skills
  • Completing application
  • Other assistance

Women Encouraged to Apply!

Basic construction skills training is offered through the Alaska Construction Acadmies. Academy classes may be a first step in a path toward a successful career in construction. Most academy classes are offered during the nights and weekends to accommodate the busy lives of today’s women and men.

A Women in the Trades program is offered in conjunction with Academy classes, with the goal to guide women to the career of their choice. Physical conditioning, career counseling, interview skills and support services may be available to eligible participants.
