Construction Academies

The Adult Alaska Construction Academies offer basic training for people seeking skills that may lead to a career in the construction industry. Evening classes allow students to keep their day jobs. Day classes are available in some communities. Students receive hands-on training by experts in the trade.
Graduates of the academies can use the training to either go to work in entry level construction jobs, become apprentices and receive paid on-the-job training, or continue their education with other post-secondary training.
Courses may include basic carpentry, framing, plumbing, electricity, weatherization, welding, and print reading. Basic and advanced trades math, and health and safety certifications are included in the coursework.
All Academies are currently accepting applications. Kenai and Ketchikan Academies’ classes begin in January 2011. For up-to-date information (including deadlines), check your community’s page below or contact: 907/569-4704 (phone) aca@alaskaworks.org (email).
