Helmets to Hardhats

Donald-Simmons.jpgDonald Simmons, an Army veteran of Afghanistan, was one of eight veterans who completed CDL training through Helmets to Hardhats at the training facility in Palmer.

Transitioning from military service to a civilian job can be a challenge. In PY 2008, Helmets to Hardhats program moved 51 veterans into trade apprenticeship programs.
Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) places quality men and women from the Armed Forces into building and construction careers. The national program is funded by Congress and administrated by a labor-management cooperation trust comprised of the 15 international building trade unions and national contracting associations.

Alaska Works Partnership has delivered H2H to Alaska for the past five years with major funding provided by the ADOLWD Employment Security Division. So far about 200 Alaskan veterans have entered into building trade apprenticeships through Helmets to Hardhats.

Helmets to Hardhats works closely with transition offices of the National Guard, Army (ACAP), Air Force, and Coast Guard in Alaska and ADOLWD Veteran representatives.
National H2H began a "Wounded Warriors" program in 2007, which connects disabled veterans to employment and training services. AWP began its Wounded Warrior program in PY08.
